Show jumping, is a popular world wide equestrian sport the world governing body of show jumping is the Fédération
Équestre Internationale (FEI) while the uk governing body of the sport is the British Show Jumping Association. The first major show held in Britain was in 1907 at Olympia and was most attended by militery show jumping riders, these classes had now set faults for nock downs or refusalls but instead the riders were rewarded points for there style and performance. Show jumping was first incorported in to the olympics in 1912 were it has remained as only 3 equestreian sports to be included in the olympics. The British Show Jumping Assciation was formed in 1923 to bring in common rules and standards.

There are numerous different types of show jumping classes from novice classes such as British Novice, Discovery, Newcomers and one of the most presigous young horse classes the Foxhunter. all young horses classes have limits set by the amount of money won by the horse once a horse has jumped out of young horse classes there are a range of Open classes for them to jump in from 1.05m upto 1.60m most international show climax with the Grand Prix you also have specialised classes such as table C's for speed horses where seconds are added for a fence knock down as well as the Puissance and Six Bar for your big scopey jumperssed to well over 6 feet.
Show Jumping is now a world wide sport with dedicated shows around the world the pinicle of the sport is like many others is to win an olympic gold medal but there are many other prestigous titles including the world cup & world equestrian games there are also many shows that are stooped in history and are high on riders wish list to win these include Hickstead Royal International and Hickstead Derby Meet, Aachen, Spruce Meadows and Olympia
Over the years the modern show jumping horse of today has evolved through selective breeing of horses that have been successfull show jumping horses them selves, a show jumping horse needs a number of key attributes it must have a powerfull scopey jump, must be brave, must be carefull and must have the athletic abilty and turn of foot to compete against the clock and make sharp turns. The Irish horses used to be very popular horses with horses such as sportsman competed very succesfully by David Broome, now a days though the trend has moved to use warm blood horses which are now much more common in the show jumping ring. Some of the most succesfull horses include Milton, Ratina Z, Dollar Girl & Quito De Baussy
